taj francis
Jamaican visual artist, Taj Francis, was born in 1989 in the parish of St. Andrew. A graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, he is currently an independent visual artist with a diverse interest of expression mainly focused through illustration. The works he produces draw influence from a combination of Jamaican Reggae aesthetics, Japanese Manga, Vinyl and Poster Art, Baroque Paintings and Pop Art aesthetics. His work continues to evolve and pulls from different influences and genres of art. This is expressed in Taj's exploration of cultural dualities, internalised human issues, youth, and African identity in his body of work.
On 17 February 2024 Taj Francis held his debut solo exhibition, The Night Sees, at 10A, Kingston. The exhibition "calls us to question what mystical figures might lie in the shadows and invites us to probe closer into the night. In the words of curator “The Night Sees” is “an adventure into the enigmatic realm of nocturnal dreamscapes, where reality merges with the surreal and the mundane transcends into the extraordinary.” --- Shannon Chen See (2024), Journal of Jamaican Art.
